  28. INSTALLING ECOMASTER
  29. --------------------
  30. Installing EcoMaster is easy, but the specific process will vary
  31. depending on how you received your copy of EcoMaster. Two examples are
  32. given below. The first is for copying from a floppy disk or CD-ROM.
  33. The second is for a ZIP file downloaded from a bulletin board system
  34. (BBS).
  35.  
  36. --------------------------
  37. From a diskette or CD-ROM:
  38. --------------------------
  39. First, create a directory for the EcoMaster files:

  41. Using the MS-DOS Prompt        Using File Manager

  43. Type MD\ECO            Click on the root directory (C:\)
  44. Press [Enter]            Click on File
  45.                 Click on Create Directory
  46.                 Type ECO
  47.                 Press [Enter]

  49. Next, copy the EcoMaster files to the newly created directory.

  51. Using the MS-DOS Prompt        Using File Manager

  53. C: [ENTER]            Make sure you have two windows visible in File
  54. CD\ECO [ENTER]                Manager. If not, click on Window, then
  55. COPY A:\*.* C: [ENTER]           New Window.
  56.                 In one window, click on the ECO directory
  57. (This is an example of           you just created.
  58. copying from a diskette.    In the other window, click on the drive
  59. For a CD-ROM, substitute       and then the directory where the EcoMaster
  60. the drive letter and            files are located.
  61. directory of the CD-ROM        Click on the first file in the source direct-
  62. for the A:\)               ory, then press the SHIFT key and while
  63.                    holding it down click on the last file in
  64.                    the source directory. All files in that
  65.                    directory will now be highlighted.
  66.                 Click again on any of the highlighted files
  67.                    but DO NOT RELEASE THE MOUSE BUTTON. You
  68.                    can now "drag" the files to the ECO
  69.                    directory in the other window by moving
  70.                    the mouse cursor to the ECO directory.
  71.                 Once the mouse cursor is over the ECO
  72.                    directory, release the mouse button. This
  73.                    will copy all the highlighted files to the
  74.                    ECO directory.

  76. Finally, install the EcoMaster icon on your Program Manager display.

  78. Method 1            Method 2 (the easy way)
  79. --------            -----------------------
  80. Using either keyboard or    In File Manager, click on ECO.EXE in the 
  81. mouse, switch to the program       ECO directory. DO NOT RELEASE THE MOUSE
  82. group you want to install       button. "Drag" the mouse cursor to the
  83. EcoMaster in (usually "GAMES"),       Program Manager program group you want
  84. then click on:               to install EcoMaster in (usually "GAMES"),

  99. From a ZIP'd file:

  101. For the novice user, it's easiest to "unzip" and install EcoMaster from the
  102. MS-DOS prompt (if you are an experienced user, you probably aren't reading
  103. these instructions, anyway, so we're going to ignore you for the time being).
  104. Please note that un-Zipping a file requires a copy of PKUNZIP.EXE, which is
  105. available on virtually all bulletin boards and online services such as Genie
  106. and CompuServe.
  107.  
  108. First, create a directory for the EcoMaster files. At the MS-DOS prompt, type
  109. "MD\ECO" (without the quote marks), and press [Enter]. Next, switch to
  110. this new ECO directory by typing "CD\ECO" and pressing [Enter].
  111.  
  112. Next, unzip ECO.ZIP into the newly created directory. As an example, if
  113. the ECO.ZIP file is in the directory C:\DOWNLOAD, then type:
  114.  
  115.    PKUNZIP C:\DOWNLOAD\ECO.ZIP
  116.  
  117. Assuming you are in ECO directory, all the EcoMaster files will be unzipped
  118. there (If that's not where you are, no telling where they will end up. Make
  119. sure you type CD\ECO before this step).
  120.  
  121. (By the way, once you have unzipped EcoMaster you can delete the ECO.ZIP
  122. file if you want. You won't be needing it anymore.)

  124. Now that the EcoMaster files are properly located on your computer, all you
  125. need to do is install the EcoMaster icon on your Program Manager display.
  126. Return to Windows and:

  148. ABOUT VBRUN300.DLL
  149. ------------------
  150. All MS Visual Basic 3.0 programs require the use of a library file called
  151. VBRUN300.DLL. This includes EcoMaster. Depending on how you received this
  152. copy of EcoMaster you may or may not have received VBRUN300.DLL.
  153.  
  154. If you DID receive VBRUN300.DLL with EcoMaster:
  155. -----------------------------------------------
  156. You may not need it. Check your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory to see if a copy
  157. is already there. If so, then you can delete the copy that came with EcoMaster.
  158. If not, you need VBRUN300.DLL either in that directory or in the ECO
  159. directory. We recommend that you place it in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory
  160. so that all programs can share it, thus meaning you only need one copy on
  161. your computer.
  162.  
  163. If you DID NOT receive VBRUN300.DLL with EcoMaster:
  164. ---------------------------------------------------
  165. You may not need it. Check your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory to see if a copy
  166. is already there. If so, then you are set -- you don't need another copy.
  167. On the other hand, if there is NOT a copy already on your system then
  168. you need to get a copy (by the way, we apologize for not including it, but
  169. most BBS's and information services prefer that we don't. Otherwise,
  170. there would be thousands of duplicate copies of this file included with
  171. other programs, taking up disk space better used for other things). Like
  172. PKUNZIP, copies are available free on most BBS's and information services
  173. like CompuServe and Genie. If you got EcoMaster off a CD-ROM, there is 
  174. probably a copy available somewhere on that CD.

  177. REGISTERING ECOMASTER
  178. ---------------------
  179. Shareware is a means of distributing software. Under the shareware concept,
  180. software may be freely copied and passed along to others, or distributed
  181. through bulletin board systems or national networks.
  182.  
  183. As a recipient of a shareware program, you may use the software for a short
  184. trial period to determine if it meets your needs. If the software is not
  185. suitable, then you can discard it. If you decide to use it, you must pay by
  186. registering. When you register a Cascoly shareware program, you receive:
  187.  
  188.     * A copy of the latest version of the program!
  189.     * Dozens of additional animals!
  190.     * Four more biomes!
  191.     * Animal and biome editor so you can customize your game!
  192.     * A free introductory account on CompuServe including a private User
